If your balcony looks like it needs a new floor, you may have spent the last few months thinking about what kind of surface to lay on it. The good news is that if you have decided to go for resin flooring, now is the time to do it.

Laying resin surfaces outdoors is not something you want to do in cold weather, because it takes the resin longer to cure and set in such conditions and it becomes vulnerable to moisture and frost.

For that reason, the time to do it is when the temperature is consistently above five degrees C, which means it should be happening between March and October.

Since we are now in spring, you can make plans to do it anytime soon. Although there have been some unseasonal chilly nights this month, April is fast approaching and it will be warmer still, bar the kind of freak weather events that cause the opening day of the cricket season to be snowed off.

Although this means you now have half the year to get the resin laid, why wait? If your balcony needs a new surface, it makes sense not to leave it for long in its current state. It also means that when the job is done, you have the job out of the way and can enjoy its qualities as the summer weather arrives.

Indeed, doing it now could even help you enjoy a sunny Easter. This is far from guaranteed, of course, but Easter Sunday this year falls on April 20th, which is one of the latest possible dates it can be (the actual latest being April 25th, which next happens in 2038).

With your resin balcony laid in the first few weeks of spring, you can enjoy standing or sitting on a beautiful balcony all summer in the knowledge that when the autumn and winter come around with their colder and stormier weather, you will have a great layer of weather-proof protection in place.
