The heavy rain of recent weeks has been nothing new for any of us. The Met Office recently confirmed that England has just had its wettest 18 months on record, and such has been the impact of wet weather that farmers are warning of ruined harvests in the months ahead.

If you live in a flat or apartment with a balcony, you may at least feel glad that you are not facing the sort of risks those with houses on flood plains are. But while your living room and kitchen may not be underwater, all that heavy rain could easily seep in and cause some problems.

Given that your balcony is likely to be getting hit by a lot of precipitation, this is one place you need to consider. A resin-bound balcony can resist the threat of water ingress as the rain pours down, even if it does so day after day like it has been doing.

This is just one of many advantages of having resin binding on your balcony. It will also protect against frost damage, will provide an aesthetically pleasing look, will be non-slip, and will resist deterioration from chemicals or having pressure (such as chair and table legs) placed on it.

Moreover, it is easy to install and any damage that does occur and let water in will be easy to spot and fix.

Of course, the thing everyone will hope for is some drier and warmer weather to come, when summer afternoons and evenings can be spent on the balcony without any concerns about anything wet except the drinks on the table.

However, with scientists expecting that the warming climate will bring us increasingly wet winters and dry summers, it is important not to consider the recent wet weather as being exceptional. Unfortunately, it looks increasingly like it will be anything but, so balcony owners will need to be prepared.
