Flat Roofing Installations & Repairs in Hampshire, Portsmouth, Southampton & Dorset

There are many different types of roofing materials available for domestic and commercial properties, but one option that’s been growing in popularity over the years is flat roofing, with benefits including ease of maintenance, versatility, increased lifespan, thermal efficiency and cost reductions.

Single Ply Membranes

Our single ply roofing systems are incredibly popular and are particularly beneficial if the project in question has weight and load bearing factors to consider. They’re ideal for lightweight, fast-track construction projects, with speedy installation times and a life expectancy of over 35 years.

The waterproof membranes are suitable for most applications, whether structures are concrete, timber or steel, as well as for warm, cold and inverted roofs. Solutions can be provided for practically any type of roof structure, whether the roof is domes, vertical, flat, pitched, convex or concave.

EPDM

One of the most versatile roofing materials is EPDM – or ethylene polypropylene diene monomer. This kind of rubber will always be a popular choice for both domestic and commercial applications because it’s capable of withstanding extreme weather conditions, requires relatively little maintenance, is an excellent insulator and is highly resistant to wear and tear.

EPDM is well suited to practically any type of roof and has an expected lifespan of more than 50 years. It’s easy to install, is aesthetically pleasing and is UV, ozone and infrared stable, which means it won’t peel, blister or crack, making it a very worthwhile investment indeed.

GRP

GRP roofing systems are made of glass reinforced polyester, a composite material that’s made by strengthening plastic with fibres made from glass (hence the term ‘fibreglass’). Installation of these systems is safe, simple and effective, with the roofing visually appealing, durable and supported by an extensive product warranty of 25 years.

This kind of flat roofing can be installed on almost any kind of roof buildup, including the likes of parapet walls, sloped roofs, dormers and mansards, as well as for balconies and walkways. You’ll find that the system is very low maintenance, durable and very versatile, lasting up to 40 years.

Liquid Applied

Liquid applied roof membrane coatings are suitable for a wide range of waterproofing and roofing applications, with the coating curing to form an elastomeric waterproof membrane that’s similar to rubber and can be applied over various substrates, including concrete, bitumen and asphalt.

It’s an excellent choice for exposed roofs in particular and the application is both easy and safe, as well as quick to complete thanks to the rapid curing process. The end result is durable, seamless and cost effective, with reduced risks of roof failure even in cold climates.

Our Flat Roofing FAQs

While flat roofing systems come with a long guarantee of around 25 years depending on the type of installation, there will come a time when wear and tear starts to take its toll. Signs that your flat roof needs replacing includes consistent or large areas of leakages. Minor leaks can be fixed with easy repairs, but if there’s a significant problem it will need to be addressed quickly.

Other signs to look out for include flooding, sagging and pooling, punctures, cracking, splitting, stretching and blistering. It’s always better to deal with these issues as soon as you see them to help prevent spiralling costs and ensure the rest of your property is sufficiently protected.

The majority of flat roofs will last between 20 and 25 years, depending on the type of installation and the materials used. You can extend the lifespan of your roof by engaging in proactive maintenance, getting ahead of any problems before they become too serious. Also make sure that you address any issues that appear over time quickly, so as to prevent them from becoming insurmountable.

Ensuring proper ventilation and insulation can also help extend the life of your roof, so factor this in at the installation stage.
